Founded in 1996, Maryland Therapeutic Riding (MTR) seeks to improve quality of life and conquer physical, developmental, and emotional health challenges through human and horse interaction. MTR offers high-quality horseback riding programs which open new pathways of healing for children and adults with a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional challenges. Conditions served include: cerebral palsy, spina bifida, neuromuscular disorders, post-traumatic brain injury, autism, ADHD, and cognitive disorders. Riders experience improved self-confidence, strength, balance, coordination, attention span, and language and social skills. The farm is located between Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland on a beautiful 25-acre farm.
Utilizing certified instructors, licensed therapists, volunteers and specially-trained horses, MTR's year-round programs include Therapeutic Riding and Hippotherapy. In Therapeutic Riding, instructors use the horse as an tool to teach riding skills and reach individualized goals and objectives. Hippotherapy is derived from the Greek hippos (horse), and literally refers to treatment or therapy aided by a horse. It is a highly structured, one-on-one therapy session under the guidance of an occupational, physical or speech therapist. We are proud to offer a specialty therapeutic riding program for veteran and active duty U.S. military wounded warriors and injured community-service personnel and their family members. Instructor training is also offered. MTR is a Premier Operating Center accredited by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH).
