The horse unit is comprised of about 30-35 horses. Most of the horses are American Quarter Horses or American Paint Horses. These horses are used for Basic Equitation, a course taught by Dr. Charles Anderson, as well as the WKU Equestrian team to practice on for upcoming events.

We currently have a 24 stall barn that has recently been remodeled that will be open for student boarding in the near future. We have a large indoor riding arena. There is currently a new barn being built that will house the WKU horses that will also have 40 stalls, classrooms, office, tack rooms, and wash racks. We will be posting pictures of the new barn to keep everyone up to date on what is going on.

The Equestrian Team competes in Western Horsemanship and Reining. The team is an IHSA team and competes with Murray State University, Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee Tech, and other colleges in our region. Practice is held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.

In 2010, there were three students, Jessie Mattingly, Rachel Kelley, and Paige Montgomery, who qualified and showed at Regionals. Paige Montgomery went on to win the Semi-Finals in Pomona, CA and placed sixth at the 2010 IHSA Nationals held in Lexington, KY.
