The equine and gaming industries encompass both unique challenges and rapidly evolving landscapes. Potential for long-term growth and innovative revenue streams are balanced by evolving legislation, legal uncertainties and economic challenges. Whether dealing with casino or pari-mutuel wagering laws, account wagering, or horse sales and breeding operations, navigating these complex industries requires not only a knowledge of the law, but a thorough understanding of the industry itself. Our attorneys recognize both the challenges and the opportunities, and we work hand-in-hand with our clients to develop a long-term strategy for success and profitability.

Drawing on our extensive experience working with owners, breeders, racetracks and account wagering companies, our team brings a thorough knowledge of the sport horse, thoroughbred and standardbred equine industry to the table, enabling them to anticipate challenges and steer our clients toward solutions.

Our team is strongly-rooted in the equine industry, featuring attorneys who have helped clients in a variety of matters, including purchase and sale of Kentucky Derby Winners and Grand Prix show-jumpers, syndication and sale of stallions, sport horses and other bloodstock interests, the formation and structure of racing partnerships, the negotiating and drafting of domestic and international simulcast agreements, the establishment and licensing of account wagering companies, and the tax planning, passive and hobby loss audits, and acquisition and sale of commercial horse farms. We also have assisted clients with account wagering licenses, media contracts, merchandising, import and export matters, and litigation of all types, including racing commission and United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) hearings.

Our work extends beyond the racetrack and show ring, as our attorneys are frequent contributors to various publications and educational forums, including Blood-Horse Magazine, Sport Horse Journals, Business Lexington and have been quoted in The New York Times, the Toronto Globe & Mail, The Blood-Horse, the Thoroughbred Times, and the Lexington Herald-Leader. Our team also features the chair of the National Equine Law Conference and an Adjunct Professor of Equine Law at the University of Kentucky College of Law.

Located in the heart of downtown Lexington, our office features over 40 attorneys who focus on corporate and transactional matters, natural resources, commercial real estate and financing, estate planning, business litigation, employment law and environmental law. Our clients include regional and national corporations, government agencies, charitable organizations and individuals.

With a growing population of just under 300,000 people, Lexington combines a balance of metropolitan life with small-town, Southern charm. Three Fortune 500 companies call Lexington home, while Toyota Motor Manufacturing's largest U.S. assembly plant is located in nearby Georgetown. The city's largest employer is the University of Kentucky, and Lexington is also home to Transylvania University.

Known as the "Horse Capital of the World," Lexington is surrounded by acres of green, rolling horse farms. It is home to Keeneland and the Red Mile, two of the country's premiere horse tracks, as well as the Kentucky Horse Park, host of the annual Rolex Three-Day Event and the site of the 2010 World Equestrian Games. The city also features several nature preserves, including Raven Run Nature Sanctuary and McConnell Springs, and regularly hosts a number of holiday festivals and events, including the Festival of the Bluegrass, the oldest bluegrass music festival in the state. Lexington boasts many historical landmarks, such as the home and original law office of statesman Henry Clay and the Mary Todd Lincoln House, the family home of Abraham Lincoln's wife. In addition to its world class equine events, Lexington enjoys minor league baseball with the Lexington Legends, and of course the University of Kentucky's many sports teams, including what is widely acknowledged as one of the most successful college basketball programs of all time.
